From what you've been told, the man is privy to many of the League's confidential military plans. Locations of bases and weapons caches, names of prominent leadership, access to private communication networks - he knows more than his unassuming appearance lets on. [break][break]

Adrian shook his head; he could scarcely recognize the snothead little brother from his youth. He'd evolved into a shithead at some point, evidently...[break][break]

Adrian stalks into the room and takes a seat. Collected and aloof, he doesn't give off the chaotic vibe of his younger brother, at least not in this moment. Perhaps he's trying to be a role model for Julian.[break][break]

It's still a little hard to believe...[break][break]

But for now, there's a job ahead of them.[break][break]

"There's only one way we're letting you out of here," Adrian admits to them carefully. Outside of the astronomical chance of a League grab-and-dash, he would stay in their custody until they were satisfied with his answers.[break][break]

"You've got a family? People you want to see again? Things left you'd like to do..." None of them were available to him here, they may not even know where he was. And they might never, if they didn't cooperate.[break][break]

"We already told you why." Julian barks across the table, feeling convinced enough himself that these were valid reasons. Would their league fellowship frown upon them—perhaps hold them in contempt? Sure. But there was value in their offer that ensured the captive's well-being while leaving the rest of it up to fate.

"Just 'cause you tell us doesn't mean it'll all go a hundred percent our way. Rocket's track record is in our favor, sure, but you're our insurance to make the grunts arrogant enough to charge into whatever trap you guys set. "

While it all makes sense to him in theory, and even though Jules comes off as genuine... There's no way in hell they're duping me into acting on this info. And really, he's talking out of his ass. A lot of patch-and-go guess work.

One thing was for sure, though. Julian wasn't sure what privileges he'd get to milk as Adrian's brother, but he was definitely going to find out—from a comfortable distance that wasn't on the front lines or behind bars. He's too smart for that.

At this point, they would be wasting time talking in circles. At best they were simply skeptical. At worst, they were intentionally stalling...[break][break]

Either way, their usefulness was rapidly decaying, and Adrian's interest in the novelty of this task was gone.[break][break]

Julian drums up their doubts and helps to displace the guilt from themselves; it may work well enough to dissuade further disobedience, so he lets it go. Though he disagrees with Julian—he believes the time for suggestion and persuasion has passed—but he backs the play.[break][break]

"Let's talk about what happens if you don't tell us the location." Adrian has grown frustrated with the endeavor, so he decides to put it so bluntly that it's almost a threat.[break][break]

Still, he hopes it's an elucidating breakdown.[break][break]

"We put you back in a cage. You rot in there, until we yank you back out again," Adrian motions towards the table they're all seated at, and the riveting conversation they're having. This would be about as exciting as it got for them in the coming days.[break][break]

"If you think you're stalling for some great escape, you're wrong." Adrian shook his head to dismiss any fantasies.[break][break]

"We'd sooner kill an uncooperative prisoner in a jailbreak."[break][break]

Adrian's deadpan evokes a sense of truthfulness.

The high tensions on display read as if they're about to crack—Agonizing enough to commit a small act of self-harm, only to allege that what they know would be of no real use to them. Jules doesn't buy it for a second. Lurching up out of his chair, it grates against the floor disruptively as he struggles to hold both hands down by the chain of their cuffs.

"That's not for you to decide!" Once pinned, Julian's off-hand reaches for and brandishes a knife that has seen better days—it's edge hideously blemished by ichor, chips, rust and Arceus knows what other filth.

It's strange to see them picking at their nails until they bled; but it demonstrated the pressure mounting on them. Perhaps they wouldn't be in here long.[break][break]

Adrian follows after their gaze closely during this phase of the inquest, curious to their intentions. Maybe it truly was just their internal morality holding them back—he could understand that. Related to it, even... it wasn't an easy choice.[break][break]

Julian had no such reservations—and it was clear the way he bolted out of his chair, frantically grabbing at the interogee and brandishing a poorly maintained blade. That's what Julian was—poorly maintained. But he was so much like himself, Adrian couldn't help seeing the potential. Even if he had to squint to let it show through.[break][break]

All the while the prisoner trembles slightly, expecting pain. But Julian stops short—[break][break]

At least he knows better than to start hacking away. But his frustrations were a double-edged reveal that they, too, could grow weary of this charade. That wouldn't stop them, however.[break][break]

"I've a mind to let him," Adrian lets on, gesturing with his head towards Julian while maintaining eye contact with their prisoner, still mostly unfazed. He had expected an outburst at some point—might've even had one himself, if Jules hadn't jumped the feraligatr first.[break][break]

Worried whimpers beget a willing mind. 'Alright, alright... !' They relent, spilling information regarding DEREK HOFFMAN's secret stache of pokemon hidden along the city outskirts. Apparently after losing all of his pokemon that were in storage during the three day war, the ex-gym leader had taken it upon himself to ensure their safe-keeping on his own.

As much as he would've liked to make good on their word after getting what they wanted, Julian had no intention of getting duped. He absolutely loathed being made to look a fool, most of all in the eyes of those close to him. While family wasn't everything to Jules like it was for some, part of him wanted to earn Adrian's favor.

Escorting the prisoner back behind bars alongside his brother, the two of them would finally have a brief moment alone as they set along to submit the intel report.
